Franck Cammas has entered into the maritime history becoming the 1st French to win the Volvo Ocean Race since 1986. It’s in Galway, Ireland that the skipper and his team triumphed aboard Groupama 4. By finishing 2nd of this last leg behind the New-Zealander, Groupama 4 has secured his victory and can’t be caught anymore, yet not even for the last coastal regatta next Saturday.

With this first participation, Franck Cammas transforms this first attempt into a winning essay and joins the New-Zealander Peter Blake, Grant Dalton and Mike Sanderson, the American Paul Cayard or the Brazilian Torben Grael, all legendary figures that have marked this race. The last French victory was in 1986, then won by Lionel Péan and l’Esprit d’équipe.

It is in May 2011, shortly before the start of this round the world that JeanRichard and Franck Cammas teamed up. A beautiful story begins based on the common values for high demands, precision and willingness to set new challenges. It is therefore natural that the watchmaker accompanies the skipper since the start of the Volvo Ocean Race in Alicante, Spain on the 29th of October 2011. Chosen for its strength, resistance to shocks and reliability, the Aquascope was the perfect travelling companion during these 8 months under extreme conditions.

“Congratulations and thank you Franck! On behalf of the entire JeanRichard team, I want to congratulate you for this beautiful victory and all those unforgettable intense moments that we have lived by your side” concluded Massimo Macaluso, JeanRichard General Manager. ■
