Word is out. Skilfully relayed by carefully honed marketing strategies, already dissected by specialists and “those in the know”, rumour has it that vintage will be all the rage this year. It’s also whispered that ladies will be taking the lead in 2017, that steel will continue to shine, that an icon will always be an icon, that the métiers d’art will work their magic, and that mechanical complications and fine craftsmanship will set the tone. We hear there’ll be glamour, champagne, cocktail frocks and dandies. But at the end of the day, as always, the true stars of this festival of new releases will be the Haute Horlogerie timepieces that galvanise time with precision and elegance. With just hours to go before the first major watch gathering of the year, it’s drum-roll and curtain-up on ten of the stars that will shine at the 27th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie.
