Arnold & Son

Born in Cornwall, England, John Arnold was one of the most inventive watchmakers of his day, famed for his work in marine chronometers. His son, John Roger, took over his father's workshop and in 1830 went into business with Edward John Dent. Relaunched in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1995, the Arnold & Son brand carries on the tradition and craftsmanship of quality English watchmaking. 5 years after its launch, it became an integrated Manufacture, capable of producing,in-house,simple and complication movements. Since 2012, Arnold & Son has been part of the Japanese group, Citizen.

Two years after setting up business in London, John Arnold rose to prominence when he mounted a half-quarter repeater movement inside a ring.

1770

John Arnold presented his first marine chronometer to the Board of Longitude, which awarded him a prize of £200.

1792

John Arnold met Abraham-Louis Breguet, giving him full permission to incorporate his inventions in precision timekeeping into his own watches.

1995

After a one-hundred-year hiatus, the Arnold & Son brand was relaunched in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
