Since its foundation in 1791, history has witnessed a series of watch-making innovations from Girard-Perregaux. As well as great technical mastery, the brand also generates expertise, having been granted in excess of 80 patents. The celebrated Tourbillon sous trois Ponts d’or and all the other creations are manufactured and assembled at the Chaux-de-fonds manufactory where every aspect of the craft of watch-making is to hand. The brand is part of the Kering Group.
Jean-François Bautte, engraver, goldsmith and watch-maker, launches his first watches. This is the beginning of the Girard-Perregaux story before it adopts the brand name.
Le Tourbillon sous trois pont d’or is awarded the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
Girard-Perregaux designs the first high-frequency mechanical movement with a balance wheel that oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour: the Gyromatic HF.
After five years of research, the brand launches a new escapement with constant force. Its main component is a buckled blade made from silicon that is finer than a hairs-width.
