It all began when an artist shared a dream with a businessman. César, the famous French sculptor, told Alain Dominique Perrin, the then-President of Cartier International, that artists needed a place to give free reign to their creativity, including for monumental projects. On that day, philanthropy took on a new meaning. Alain Dominique Perrin, renowned collector and artist-lover, decided to set up a foundation entirely devoted to contemporary art, the name of which would be its only link to the luxury industry. He is still President of the Foundation to this day.
