The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie joins World Anti-Counterfeiting Day on June 8th and continues its fight against fakes. Since 2009, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) has campaigned to show the true face of counterfeiting, and raise public awareness that trade in counterfeit products thrives only when aided and abetted by people who knowingly buy fakes.
On May 18th, Christie's realised CHF 69 million (US$ 78.1 million) at its Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale, chasing the CHF 79 million (US$ 89.5 million) which Sotheby's had garnered the previous day for its sale of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels.
As part of its anti-counterfeiting campaign, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie invited the public and students at Lausanne university of art and design to enter a short film competition on the theme "Take a true look at fakes." Winners were presented with their prizes at a ceremony on May 25th.
Over a thousand timepieces changed hands in two days, realising CHF 39 million (US$ 44.2 million / € 31.5 million) for the three auction houses, including CHF 23.4 million (US$ 26.3 million / € 18.6 million) for Christie's. A 1928 Patek Philippe sold for CHF 3.235 million (US$ 3.63 million / € 2.57 million).
