HEG Geneva launches its Master of Advanced Studies in Luxury Management

Introduced last year by the Geneva Haute Ecole de Gestion, in partnership with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, this new degree course is entering its second semester, and looks destined for success.

“Feedback from our students has been extremely positive,” declares Magali Dubosson, director of the Haute Ecole de Gestion in Geneva, which last autumn launched its Master of Advanced Studies in Luxury Management (see Training, issue 27, May 2009). “A course that combines theory and practice in the different luxury sectors opens up new horizons for students and meets their expectations well.” Interest in the course has indeed been strong. “We opened enrolments relatively late, in May last year. We were hoping to attract 15 or so worthwhile candidates. As it turned out, we began the course with 20 students and already have 15 strong applicants for the next intake. This course, the only one of its kind in Switzerland, clearly meets a need.”

Constant motivation

Students, who come from sectors as diverse as services, banking, industry, watchmaking and hospitality, are more than motivated. “We’re all here for the same reason: to perfect our knowledge and master a subject we all care about and in which we want to progress,” comments Arielle Godin, who works for Cartier. “Luxury is a fascinating environment. It’s our duty to measure up to a sector that is set to grow across all five continents.” An almost full contingent came to hear Richard Mille speak as part of the Master’s optional lecture programme (see A clinical product that inspires emotion), all eager to learn more and hear, first-hand, the recipe for their future success.

Geneva, a centre of excellence

“We already enjoy a positive image on the market for having developed a quality curriculum, delivered by experts in their field with a high level of experience,” Magali Dubosson observes. “This is certainly what encourages us to continue in this vein to make this Masters a benchmark.” A centre of excellence in sectors as diverse as banking, hospitality and watchmaking, as well as perfumes and aromas for prestigious couture houses and the international agrifood industry, Geneva finally has the Masters it deserves!
