The trends displayed at Baselworld almost mirrored those at SIHH and several key areas took precedence. Vintage was probably the biggest of them all – a trend that has been going on for some time now. Rare vintage watches have long-gained huge attention and price tags, but more recently brands have been reimagining and re-releasing classic timepieces, usually for anniversaries or special events. A perfect example is Omega’s Baselworld unveiling of the 1957 trilogy.
Opposing brands’ current love for vintage they are also stepping up their smartwatch game with more reveals during this year’s Baselworld than ever before, including the Montblanc Summit and, of course, the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45.
In this article, we will be searching the most talked about novelties from this year’s event. Using two different categories among influencers and beyond influencers, we monitored online mentions from social media and online media (including blogs) to find out how many people were speaking about each novelty from Baselworld 2017. Among influencers crawls over 2,000 luxury and watch blogs and bloggers; beyond influencers, every mention on the web.

5) Bulgari Octo 41mm Finissimo Automatic
Another record broken by Bulgari creating, for the third time, the slimmest automatic watch ever.
The brand is quickly becoming a giant within the Fine Watchmaking industry and they’re doing it whilst breaking records and creating beautiful dress watches. Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari said “the expectations of the top-end client go towards refined and sophisticated products rather than massive pieces as has been the case during the last decade.” “These world records have contributed to deeply modifying Bulgari’s image and perceived value. They set Bulgari among the best watch manufacturers in the world.”
There is a huge importance to refine sophistication, as not everyone wants to show off their big, diamond paved, gold watches, like days past. Today people want ultra-sleek designs that can be hidden as easily as they can be shown off.
