It’s said that behind every great man, there is a great woman. It could be there is a woman behind every watchmaker too, as few resist the desire, and the need, to give a feminine touch to their collections. In a sector that thrives on creativity, ladies’ watches offer a much bigger playground than their masculine counterparts. On this side of the gender divide, almost anything goes, from the most intricate mechanical complications to head-turning designs, from bright candy colours to strict classicism, from extravagant shapes to the cleanest, purest lines, diamonds to coloured stones. In their quest to win women’s hearts, and wrists, watchmakers are prepared to pull out all the stops by inventing new expressions of elegance and style. There are no guidelines, no rules. Ladies’ watches are, and always will be, multifarious. Like the women who wear them, they can be sensual, delicate, smart, poetic, colourful, fun and – yes, we admit it – complicated too!
