Retrograde display

A retrograde display uses an additional mechanism that enables the hand – or any other type of indicating organ – to return to its point of departure after having traveled over a graduated segment. The latter may be either linear or shaped like the arc of a circle (sector). This complication may apply to any timekeeping indication, provided it is cyclical.
