A transfer from the Heritage Chronométrie collection with its classic designs, the ExoTourbillon is the ace in the TimeWalker pack. This new-generation tourbillon owes its “Exo” prefix to its construction, whereby the screw balance is mounted outside the rotating cage. As well as using 30% less energy than a conventional tourbillon, this original architecture functions with a smaller cage. It also ensures heightened precision as the balance, because of its position, is unaffected by the inertia of the cage. A stop-seconds mechanism acts directly on the balance so that the seconds can be set with absolute precision. Similarly, the hours can be adjusted forwards or backwards without stopping the minute or seconds hands, again to maintain precision. Travellers will appreciate the fact that hour-setting and date are synchronised.
For this first incursion into the TimeWalker collection, Montblanc has combined the ExoTourbillon with its MB R230 in-house chronograph mechanism. Innovation and performance are equally apparent on the outside, in the choice of titanium, carbon fibre and black DLC for the 44-mm case in three parts. The dial proposes a highly legible layout based on concentric circles. Hour and minute circles surround the date disc. The semi-circular chronograph subdials are swept by double hands that measure seconds at 8 o’clock and minutes at 4 o’clock. Practical and functional, the TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph is manufactured as a limited edition of 100 pieces whose reliability is duly certified by the Montblanc Laboratory 500 Hours Test.
